Any known issues with 2010 15" MBP (6,2) Sierra upgrade?
Hi folks,
Does anyone have any feedback or issues with their upgrade of model 6,2 to Sierra?
Cheers,

You may have video issues with that model. It's a common problem but not one caused by Sierra.
The problem is likely due to the discrete GPU failing. Download gfxCardStatus 2.3 and use it to disable the discrete GPU. This is a temporary workaround until you get your motherboard replaced.
I've got a 6,2 and I upgraded it to Sierra today with no issues. It's working just fine.
N.B. One oddity I did encounter was the fans came on hard after it rebooted, it was using CPU like crazy. Activity monitor showed photoanalysisd was the culprit, it was using over 100% CPU for a solid 10-15 minutes or so before the fans finally stopped making a racket. I figure it was indexing/analysing the Photos library for the new features in Photos app. Once it was done with that all was calm again.
Thank you very much, Kappy,
Since you mention the GPU issue, I had this experience a couple of years back, and at about this time two years ago it was replaced. This, despite the replacement programme having finished by about six months and my AppleCare was well dead and buried. I am eternally grateful to Apple for doing that for me.
Thanks again,
D.
Thanks a lot, David,
Since you mention Photos, I'm reminded that I forgot to ask about Aperture. I wonder if anyone reading this has had any significant issues so far with Aperture performance? (I am well aware that Yosemite was the last official support OS).
For the Photos app specifically, I have a paltry 14.5gb library comprised of all my iPhone images but use Aperture for all my DSLR stuff which is on a separate drive (I've been too lazy to make the Lightroom jump), but good to know nonetheless that I shouldn't be too frightened of the potential 'fan freakout' 🙂
Cheers fella,
D.
