can't drag and drop into home videos

Instead of simply drag and drop into iTunes Home Videos I now have to use the import files or folder option. After I do this the DVD shows in iTunes and seems okay. However when I close iTunes later and then reopen next the movie is not in the list or anywhere else I can think of to look. It is still on the HD in the media file. In order to transfer to my iPad I have to import it again and do the transfer before I close iTunes. why? I have just done a complete uninstall and reinstall of iTunes and its components today but still the same issue.

Windows 7 64 bit.

iTunes is on C drive SSD

Library is on D drive HDD

Thanks tt2, I did as you said but found it still didn't work so I uninstalled iTunes again, used Revo Pro uninstaller, got rid of everything from the registry I could find and cleared my computer of everything Apple. Have now reinstalled and is now working as it should. I think when you get update after update everything gets clogged so start from scratch is the only way. At least that is what did it for me.
