Hi. It is easy enough.
Press the home and power/sleep buttons together and quickly release them.

Since posting, I have tried several more times, and found since upgrade to Ios10 the buttons have to be pressed in VERY quick succession, unlike previous versions where it was not time critical. Thnx for the reply.
It might help if you do it this way. Hold the sleep button, quickly tap the home button like you would a camera shutter button, and release both buttons. It works for me virtually every time. I have been using that method for a couple of years and in all iOS versions.
There is no doubt that this version is the fussiest yet for taking screen shots. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the virtual home button on the iPhone 7, but that would be my best guess.
