I am using late 2014 Macbook pro 15" running Mac OS Sierra.
Before updating to sierra, on OS EL Captain, USB ethernet was working fine but after the update to Sierra the USB ethernet is not working, "showing cable unplugged".
Kindly advise, and thank you in advance.

I have this problem too - I had this Gigabit USB Ethernet adapter that worked well with OSX El Capitan, but stopped working after the update to macOS Sierra. It looks like it's not recognized anymore:

However, USB Ethernet still works with the Apple adapter I used before (but it's not Gigabit-capable, so it's limited to 100 Mbps).
How do you know speed with the Apple adapter is limited to 100?
LIkely the non-Apple adapter needs updated drivers.
I have this Apple adapter, which supports 10/100BASE-T performance.

My D-Link DUB-1312 also stopped working. I tried the latest driver, but no luck.
My guess is they stopped working due to changes to kext signing in macOS Sierra.
EDIT: I disabled SIP by running csrutil disable in the Terminal in Recovery OS. Nasty, but it works!

I have an Anker ethernet adapter that worked just fine with Capitan but not now. I guess its back to Capitan until they come up with a fix.

Hey guys. So does the original apple adapter work? I have D-link adapter and it's not working obviously. But I'm considering buying the original usb or thunderbolt adapter. Do you think it'll work?

The original Apple USB and Thunderbolt adapters works. You can however use your D-Link adapter, if you disable SIP as described above.

In my case, my non-apple USB Ethernet adaptor is working, but my apple adaptor is not. Looking at the system report, it is aware that the adaptor is there, but it just shows not connected.
