iPhone7 Bluetooth issue in the car

My brand new Iphone7 seems to have bluetooth problems in my car. Everything works but the sound drops sometimes (often) when I listen to music. I didnt have this issue wiyh my 6s and IOS10. I tried to reset everything but the problem persists. The iPhone is recognized by the radio inmy Toyota, but the sound drops just as it was a radio in a tunnel.

I provided this to the techs weeks ago, but it seems like there was no headway. So here are the results of my trials for everyone to read:

I work in an environment where I have access to soundproof rooms. The walls are steel with padding and are about 6" thick (solid). These are "dead spots" for wireless in my building, which I surveyed and had to plan around because of the walls. I also work with deploying a lot of iOS devices, so most of my colleagues have an iPhone.

Testing environment:

I tested the area with an OptiView XG using AirMagnet Spectrum XT software. This device and software is used to measure the amount of Radio Frequency (RF) radiation in a given area to troubleshoot issues with wireless, and to help design wireless networks for large corporations. This helped me to ensure that there were no stray 2.4GHz interferers while testing, meaning that the only devices emitting 2.4GHz band RF were the "Devices" listed below (Beats Pill, Plantronics Backbeats, Braven BRV-1) and the phones.

Additionally, I tested the cars listed below in several environments with and without interferers nearby. These were less controlled, however mirrored the exact same results.

Stuttering/Skipping:

To show an example of the skipping sound that I am referring to, please take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHFDRVA958

Bluetooth devices tested:

  • Cars: 2013 Ford Focus, 2011 Toyota Venza, 2007 BMW 335i, 2006 VW Jetta
  • Devices: Beats Pill, Plantronics Backbeats, Braven BRV-1

iPhones tested:

  • iPhone 6s - No problems
  • iPhone 6s Plus - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (T-Mobile, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Sprint, A1661) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 (Verizon, A1660) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon, A1661) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon, A1661) - No problems
  • There were two other GSM iPhone 7 Pluses that I trialed, but I don't have the model numbers in front of me to list to provide exact details. Both had issues.

As you can see, the issues are localized to the GSM models using the new Intel modems. This further solidifies the belief that there is an existing hardware issue and not a problem with software, interference, or other manufacturer's devices. I'm not sure what else I can do to troubleshoot with the Apple reps, but after spending upwards of $5000 with Apple in 2016, I can't help but to feel neglected.

I have been getting dropouts with phone calls using my 2016 Explorer's hands free. The call will be fine for some amount of time and then the signal cuts out, with the audio going back to the phone. If I wait a few seconds, the connection reestablishes itself, but this is a terrible way to have a conversation.

I've been told that my Bluetooth headset has a similar issue for calls, even though I can't hear it cutting out. I do hear the Bluetooth getting choppy when I listen to music through it...I always attributed it to the car/headset, but it looks like it's the phone.

*i have tried all the level 1 trouble shooting.

Is Bluetooth still working with your Infiniti? My music comes out choppy over Bluetooth in my Infiniti, and calls often go to iPhone even though I’ve answered or called on car speaker. Just wondering if the unplugging of the battery helped resolve your Bluetooth issue permanently. I have the iPhone 8+, I got it after returning my iPhone 7, then iPhone 7+ because neither of them worked.

@Apple, you really should fix this. Lots of people are leaving because of these ridiculous issues. And also blaming the car brand. Shame, shame!

Hello,

I am writing from South America. I just got an Iphone 7 and it seems that this problem is really alive. The Bluetooth connection from my iPhone to my Bluetooth speakers and earplugs are terrible.

The audio is chopped.

Unbelievable that Apple did not fixed it yet.

Do you have any tip to avoid this terrible quality problem?

After only two days, am thinking to return my iPhone 7.

Thank you in advance.

I am also having frequent Bluetooth dropouts in my 2015 Ford Escape (Sync 2, latest updates) with my new iPhone 7 Plus. I never had this issue with any other iPhone or iOS version.

I tried un-pairing, re-pairing, deleting the profile on the phone and in the car, and resetting network settings. No luck. It's impossible to listen to music in the car now because it cuts out so frequently. It'll play fine for a while, then there are hiccups and what sound like sped-up music, then it gives out completely for several minutes. After a while, the phone disconnects completely then I can reconnect and start using it again.

This is very frustrating.

I just got an iPhone 7+ Friday and I have the same issue In 2015 Lexus. I spent hours troubleshooting. When playing audio from iTunes, through bluetooth connection, randomly, the sound cuts out almost like an audio cd would skip. The music is downloaded to the iPhone so it's not a streaming issue. I closed all apps except iTunes fearing another open app was interfering and that didn't help. I disabled all voice commands in Lexus settings. I removed and restored bluetooth connection to car. I also tried turning off DSP and suround sound settings in Lexus. I have tried lowering the handset volume, tried iPhone eq settings on and off. Also shut off sound check in iPhone. i also noticed the same issue will occur when streaming pandora using the pandora app on my phone.

To troubleshoot , I reconnected my iPhone 6+ with same OS to Lexus and played music for 15 mins without any skip. So the issue is with iPhone 7+ not iOS, although it could be a new setting in iOS that is not on 6+. I connected my Iphone 7+ back through bluetooth on car and within a minute it "skipped" again.

Further to note the volume level of bluetooth audio is significantly lower on iPhone 7+. I can turn the handset volume up all the way and my cars volume up all the way and it's not really that loud. When I conmected the 6+ I can get to about half volume on handset before its distorted and too loud.

I'm serioulsy frustrated that I cannot play audio in my car without it cutting in and out every few seconds.
