iPhone7 Bluetooth issue in the car

My brand new Iphone7 seems to have bluetooth problems in my car. Everything works but the sound drops sometimes (often) when I listen to music. I didnt have this issue wiyh my 6s and IOS10. I tried to reset everything but the problem persists. The iPhone is recognized by the radio inmy Toyota, but the sound drops just as it was a radio in a tunnel.

I provided this to the techs weeks ago, but it seems like there was no headway. So here are the results of my trials for everyone to read:

I work in an environment where I have access to soundproof rooms. The walls are steel with padding and are about 6" thick (solid). These are "dead spots" for wireless in my building, which I surveyed and had to plan around because of the walls. I also work with deploying a lot of iOS devices, so most of my colleagues have an iPhone.

Testing environment:

I tested the area with an OptiView XG using AirMagnet Spectrum XT software. This device and software is used to measure the amount of Radio Frequency (RF) radiation in a given area to troubleshoot issues with wireless, and to help design wireless networks for large corporations. This helped me to ensure that there were no stray 2.4GHz interferers while testing, meaning that the only devices emitting 2.4GHz band RF were the "Devices" listed below (Beats Pill, Plantronics Backbeats, Braven BRV-1) and the phones.

Additionally, I tested the cars listed below in several environments with and without interferers nearby. These were less controlled, however mirrored the exact same results.

Stuttering/Skipping:

To show an example of the skipping sound that I am referring to, please take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHFDRVA958

Bluetooth devices tested:

  • Cars: 2013 Ford Focus, 2011 Toyota Venza, 2007 BMW 335i, 2006 VW Jetta
  • Devices: Beats Pill, Plantronics Backbeats, Braven BRV-1

iPhones tested:

  • iPhone 6s - No problems
  • iPhone 6s Plus - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (T-Mobile, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Sprint, A1661) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 (Verizon, A1660) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon, A1661) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon, A1661) - No problems
  • There were two other GSM iPhone 7 Pluses that I trialed, but I don't have the model numbers in front of me to list to provide exact details. Both had issues.

As you can see, the issues are localized to the GSM models using the new Intel modems. This further solidifies the belief that there is an existing hardware issue and not a problem with software, interference, or other manufacturer's devices. I'm not sure what else I can do to troubleshoot with the Apple reps, but after spending upwards of $5000 with Apple in 2016, I can't help but to feel neglected.

Apple Removed my earlier post today for mentioning the word B8TA.. I'm re-posting with this removed:

-------

Wasted another 4 1/2 hours on this again today. First call was to AT&T business support who put a senior technical support agent on with me. She was aware of issue, and although very polite and professional, I spent an hour on the phone with her explaining all the different solutions that have been tried before she transferred me to Apple Support. Then 21 mins on hold with apple support who admitted that he had the same issues himself, but would not acknowledge a formal issue. Spent 40 mins on the phone with home explaining problem, and troubleshooting and he concluded that if I reset my phone back to default (from iTunes) and then installed the public release of ios 10.1 (I was running beta 10.2.1) that he was nearly 100% sure it would fix the issue and he even made a genius appointment for me in the case that it did not. Thirty more minutes to restore phone back to default. Then with a clean iphone 7+, no apps, and 1 song imported into Itunes I drove back to the area that I know will always cut out the bluetooth and sure enough it did. [removed sentence]

So now I'm right back to where I started almost 5 hours ago.... another huge waste of my time. I know have about 15 hours into troubleshooting this over the last 2 months.

I'm just so incredibly frustrated at this point.

Techs ignore me, no updates fix anything, and when I do speak with a tech, it's just me repeating myself regarding the problem. I'm not driving three hours to exchange a phone and it just have the same issue again. All three of my phones do it in five different vehicles.

I can't even charge my phone and use an aux cable in the car at the same time. I literally didn't care about the 3.5mm jack removal because I could still charge my phone and stream via Bluetooth in my car. The GPS is a huge battery hog and makes the use of "either or" impossible. It's an integral feature of the phone because of this, yet it's completely dysfunctional. 😠 Come on.

Two months is ample time to at least acknowledge that a problem has existed since launch.

What is easier to believe? That apple used hardware that is causing the LTE to interfere with Bluetooth or that Apple can't figure out the programming portion or that it doesn't care. I don't know; a bit above my pay.

But from using Apple and non Apple products recently, Apple's LTE has always been more buggy than the Android phones I have used (whereas its wifi has always been better).

Personally, the difficulty in using this forum or AppleCare gives me questions.

My Bluetooth does work now but I do have difficulty in receiving calls. I have changed the settings to not sync my contacts per someone's suggestion and hope this helps.

My AppleMusic crashes once a day if I browse music and this does get very old. This product was very poorly delivered to us and it still has it issues.

I have to filed a bug report and submitted sysdiagnose logs. When I upgraded to 10.1 I updated the report to reflect that there were no changes. Still a problem. A week later they messaged me asking me to update to 10.1. Don't think they're really paying attention.

At one point they asked me for my CarKit number. Tried googling what that was. No info. Asked them for clarification and no response.

I had the same problem with my BMW i3 and iPhone 7+. iPhone 6+ worked fine. Now it connects -- I can see the album cover I am playing on the phone in the dashboard display, but no sound -- ever. I posted this (initially) back in late September.

Today I fixed it by:

  1. updating the phone to 10.1.1
  2. "forgot" the BMW in IOS bluetooth settings
  3. Deleted the phone on the BMW
  4. Add the phone back on the BMW, and re-paried it

It now works -- hope that works for the rest of you
