Did you buy this machine used?

Do 2 backup on 2 separate drives. If you bought the computer used, try booting into Internet Recovery (command - option/alt - R during a restart) and use Disk Utility to erase/reformat the drive. Then reinstall the OS, which should be the one the computer shipped with. Upgrade as required.

    Hi!

I did just that: command-R during restart, erased the drive, then tried to reinstall the OS, but after signing in I get the same error that the OP does.

I did not buy my MBP used, but can't find my original DVD (I'm not even sure there was one), so I'm stucked right now.

    Help is highly welcome!

    I solved the problem.

You need to log in in App Store with the same username and password that you used when you installed Mountain Lyon for the first time (or bought!).

I was using a diferent set of username/pass, but then I remembered that I has used another set a long time ago, so I used that one and the download started imediately.

    Hope this helps you @heart25!

    Cheers!

    Try command - option/alt - R next time.
