Q: ios 10 calendar widget shows blank lines

Running iOS10 on an iPhone 5s.

Occasionally (not always), the calendar widget will show blank lines instead of the actual events.

e.g there might be 2 events and 1 bday to show, but the widget will show 2 empty lines and a 3rd with just the bday icon, but no event text in any of them.

The 3 empty lines shown above, correspond to 3 events from 3 different calendars.

I noticed that if I attempt to type in the spotlight box (just bring it up) and dismiss it immediately, the widget will re-render and the text of the events will appear correctly.

Anyone else seen this?

    Hi 0-ing,

Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

It looks like your Calendar widget doesn't display the text of your events initially. Let's try some troubleshooting to see if we can clear up this behavior.

First, restart your iPhone if you haven't already--Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Next, try removing and re-adding the Calendar widget--Use Widgets on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

    Sincerely.

    Thanks for the reply.

Restarting the iphone and re-adding the widget did not solve the issue.

Still seeing the same random behaviour.

    Hi there 0-ing,

    Thanks for trying those steps.

Do you use multiple calendar accounts? If so, let's turn them off one by one to see if we can resolve this or isolate the behavior to a certain account.

Turn on iCloud, Google, Exchange, or Yahoo! calendars. Go to Settings > Calendar, tap Accounts, then turn a calendar on or off. From Use multiple calendars.

If turning the account(s) off and on doesn't solve it, try removing and re-adding the affected account(s) from your iPhone:

        1.    Go to Settings > Calendar > Accounts.
        2.    Tap the account(s) you want to remove.
        3.    For iCloud calendar, tap Sign Out. For other calendar accounts, tap Delete Account.
        4.    Re-add the account from Settings > Calendar > Accounts > Add Account.

Let us know the results of these steps.

    All the best.

Every single one of the calendars exhibits the same issue, when isolated.

I found that other people experience the same issue:

    Hi 0-ing,

Thanks for getting back to us.

If you were an iOS 10 beta participant, make sure you've updated to the final version of iOS 10 using these steps from About iOS beta software:

Download the final version of iOS

If you have an iOS beta version and want to download the final version, follow these steps:

    1. Connect your device to iTunes.
    2. While your device is connected, force it to restart. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding until you see the Recovery Mode screen.
    3. When asked, choose Update to download and install the latest nonbeta version of iOS.
An update install won't affect your content or settings.

Since all of your calendars exhibit the same issue, next we'd recommend reaching out to AppleCare using one of the methods at Apple - Support - Product Selection.

    Best Regards.

    hi jeremy_v

I am not a beta participant.

The problem manifests for me for ios 10.0.1 and 10.0.2.

I posted the reddit link merely to show that this seems to have been a problem since the beta, for some people.

I have exact the same problem.

However it is very irregular. Sometimes you see the text for half a second and then it disappears. And sometimes if you swipe back to notifications it will render correctly. Most often if you open/close the notification center it will render again. The numb of items is always correct, so are the calendar color bars.

    Hope this helps a bit.
