Q: iPhone7 - Home button - Freeze

Hi all,

I'm using a iphone 7 (black 128GB), iOS 10.0.1

I'm not able to reproduce it but it happened twice. The home button stops responding. I feel the taptic click but nothing responds. Also all the other "hardware" button dont respond. (the power button, mute of volume up /down) after a couple minutes I see all the actions I did ( pressing the home, mute vol up ect) and then the phone responds again.

(The screen keeps responding all the time when the other button don't)

I setup my iphone 7 as a new Iphone.

Yes, I'be been experiencing this issue on my 32GB iPhone 7 too, it actually has just started today, after one week of perfect working... Hope they will solve the issue with the next iOS update ;/

Exact same problem here and thanks! I didn't know power+vol down could do the work. I thought the only way to do a hard reset is power+home.

Ddefinitely need to take a trip to an Apple Store buddy. That's an internal issue that you can't fix without proper tools.

I think it's a software bug, so needless trip to the Apple Store...

I have this issue every. single. day.  This is my 2nd iPhone 7 and both have done this.  I originally had the AT&T version, the regular size one, and then returned it for the Verizon one.  Both of them did this on a daily basis, I thought I was just crazy at first.  It's never within the same app, or under the same circumstances.  Yesterday it was while I had the lock screen up, I couldn't do anything.  The power button didn't turn the screen on/off, the home button wouldn't unlock my phone, but it did "click" so it's recognizing that I'm touching it.  I've had this happen in messages, in my email, while I was in snapchat, while I was trying to change a song that was playing, etc.  The screen does respond still, so whatever app you're in you can still control, but you're stuck in it for the time being.  I was rebooting it at first but then i realized if you wait a full minute, sometimes two, it will go back to normal as if there was never an issue.  It's very frustrating and I'm debating on just returning it and going back to my old phone, I have a few days to decide before my 14 day return period.

This post is not solved. I have also experienced this a few times. Always random. I have 32 gb black verizon. I suspect its a software rather then hardware issue. I have noticed it probably 4 times now and its doing it right now while i read this lol. I am assuming it has done it other times perhaps at night or a period I hadn't been using the phone to notice it. All the buttons have no effect but touch functions on the screen work just fine. And it will resume normal function after a few minutes.

My first guess is that if a lot of background activity is running then the phone will not allow those functions to work until it is done doing whatever routine process it is doing in the background. But I have been able to use my phone just fine during background app updates and what not so I am a bit stumped as to what it could actually be. I would like to know if it is all phones since the software update or just new iphone 7's.

As an update, I checked my phone after that post and it still had not corrected itself. I unplugged it from the charger to get the lock screen to come on, swiped to answer a text message and the phone did not ask for a passcode or touch ID. It opened my phone up just fine and i responded and sent a text message. Then i waited for it to go to the lock screen again and when it did i hit the home button a bunch and then it did it catch up spaz out and after that everything worked again. The fact that the phone was not actually locking people out really concerns me and I will watch for this in the future, this is now a security concern.
