The most recent Safari update was auto-installed last night and suddenly the streaming viewer for Netflix doesn't work. I've installed the most recent Silverlight (per Netflix tech support suggestion), which did nothing. It's my own fault. I was thinking yesterday how nice it is that I never ever have a problem with the video stream on Netflix. Then I made the mistake of mentioning it out loud. The next morning, poof, black screen on Netflix. I suspected Safari, but wasn't sure how to go about reinstalling the update.

I'm not sure if you can find here a Safari version older than 10.0 that can be installed as standalone. Maybe you must reinstall Yosemite and not set automatic update (this can be dangerous, if you don't check regularly the system).
