Q: Photos and videos help

Few questions.

Photos - I don't want duplicate files. I've imported all my photos into the photos app, "Copy items to the photos library" is checked.

  1. Can I now delete all the pics and folders of pics in the "Pictures" folder?
  2. They're all stored in the "Photos Library.photoslibrary" now right?
  3. "Copy items to the photos library" should be checked or no if I don't want duplicates?

Videos -

  1. When importing iPhone pics/videos using Photos app, it stores the video clips in same location as the photos and not in the "Movies" folder?
  2. I have a bunch of old video clips from various digital cameras and such. I'd like them treated the same way as the new iPhone video clips that I import. How do I make that happen? Import them into Photos app with "Copy items to the photos library" then once done delete the files in original location?

Thanks

Yes, as long as you import with the option "Copy items ..." enabled, you can delete the files and folders you just imported after you checked that the imported images can be enlarged and viewed in Photos.  I'd make a new Time Machine backup before you start deleting, just in case.

    1. "Copy items to the photos library" should be checked or no if I don't want duplicates?

It is much safer to use this option and not a referenced import, see this user tip:   Disadvantages of a Referenced Library in Photos | Communities

Photos is storing the videos in its own library, just like photos, depending on the preference for "Copy items to the photos library"

Yes, unless the video clips are part of an iMovie library that you want to save.  Then you would need to backup the iMovie  library on an external drive.
