Q: iMovie 10.1.2 crashes on startup with Codec32BitTool error-log
iMovie 10.1.2 on El Capitan crashes shortly after startup – I can get it to display the welcome message – and there are two User Diagnostic Reports in Console. The relevant message appears to be as follows:
Codec32BitTool_sb_2016...crash:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: @rpath/AECore.framework/Versions/A/AECore
Referenced from: /Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/PlugIns/Compressor/CompressorKit.bundle/Conte nts/Frameworks/AECore.framework/Resources/Codec32BitTool_sb
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/PlugIns/Compressor/CompressorKit.bundle/Conte nts/Frameworks/AECore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/../../../../AECore.framewor k/Versions/A/AECore: mach-o, but wrong architecture
iMovie used to work, so I really don't understand at all why it is not doing so now.
Looking in the package library to find the actual file, the entry (an alias ...) was last modified on February 8, 2016. I have no reason to suspect mischief. But I don't know what to do to fix this.
