After reviewing your post, it sounds like the mic is recognized in the system preferences but is not responding to input. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. Since you have not mentioned what troubleshooting you have done, one thing we can try is reset the NVRAM to reset the sound preferences.How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
