i have an iphone 6 sometimes when i log on to the phone
i get two lines about 1/8" apart down the middle of the screen.
problem is when i try to text or write an email , the letters and numbers
in that area won't work ?
is this a common issue.

No, this is not a common issue. There are several things you can try. First (and easiest) is a restart and/or forced restart:

Next would be a restore from backup and then restore as new:

If none of those help, I suggest:
