Q: using iCloud

I am currently using a gmail address with iCloud. I wish to switch to using an iCloud address, I know i will lose probably everything I have (thank God I don't have much) I want to be able to use the full version of iCloud because I'm not utilizing it as It's mean to work.  Any help I can get would be appreciated.

Changing to an icloud address will not in any way change how iCloud is used. You don't get any extra features because you are using an iCloud address.

The only difference is what address you type to log in. That's it

Why do you need to change to an iCloud address?

What's wrong with the gmail address?

Using a GMail address as your Apple ID doesn't stop you from using any facility of iCloud. The only difference it makes is that your login address is different from the email address associated with the account. It's meant to work that way. Indeed if both addresses are the same you still need to provide a non-Apple address as a contact address in case of problems.

As you have presumably found out, you cannot change the ID address to your @icloud.com address. The only way to have them to same is to start from scratch and create the account from the iCloud Preference Pane - see Imp68's post here: Re: I wish to transfer my Apple ID to a new iCloud account
