iPhone 7 Plus keeps freezing

Good morning -

I have a question about my iPhone 7 Plus. It seem that it keeps freezing in the middle of a task. It happens in native (iMessage, Phone) and downloaded apps ( facebook, pinterest). I either have to shut the apps down, or reboot my phone all together.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Or is there any insight as to why this is happening on my 3 day old iPhone 7Plus?

Whenever I contact support they tell me to restore the device, which I have done, but it doesn't help.

Are you restoring the phone from a back up? Or back to factory state. If you've only tried restoring it to a back up, the next step would be to try restoring it to factory state then testing it for several days.

I have iPhone 7+ and I faced the exact same problem. The phone screen just freezes and the buttons don't work. I also tried holding power + home button for 20+ seconds but it didn't work. The problem seems to arrive when I start using google keyboard app (Gboard). I have reset the phone settings which also disabled the keyboard app and my phone is working fine now.

My iPhone 7 Plus is not new. I have formatted it various times, removed all apps except apple apps, and it still does it (freezing). Sometimes the screen goes black, sometimes it jusr freezes in whatever app it is. To be honest i notice the three apps that freeze the most are 1. iMessage (keyboard also freezes and cant open the image/apps/camera feature. 2. Instagram freezes the gyroscipe and prevents rotation/landscape mode in app switcher (making portrait mode apps sit in landscape mode even if iPhone is held vertically in portrait mode) and 3. Apple Camera App, which has multiple faults (shutter bug, won't rotate screen, and iPhone freeze).

The problem won't go away with a reset, becaue the problem is a device problem, with all iPhone 7 Plus almost. I have 7 friends with iPhone 7 Plus devices, and they all have the same problem. I think the problem is more that the manufacturers don't accept that the problem is a generic software / hardware problem (generic meaning 'from Apple')

I dont think the issue can be fixed, or if so, must be fixed with n iOS update. The last 4 updates have not fixed the shutterbug issue, nor have they fixed the iPhone freeze issue. Which is why i dont update anymore since iOS 9.2, as productivity is never improved, only social networking and media consumption is the future of the iPhone. Im a content creator, and the camera heats up and drains battery in 5 minutes from 99% to 10% too. The camera App needfs serious attention to fix it. As to the telephoto lens i thought it would be good to zoom macro photos, but i cant focus on closeups of tiny objects because the telephoto zoom and the digital zoom start jumping between each other trying to decide which lens to use, and the image just hops all over the place going in and out of focus.

In the end, the iPhone 7 Plus has turned out to be much less useful to me than my iPhone 5 s was, and iOS was much better as it was in version 7. Im very disappointed with the iPhone 7 Plus, i have been using Apple products for over 7 Years, and own over 30,000$ worth of stuff from Apple. I have bnought at least 7 iPads and 6 iPhones in the last 7 years, 2 macbooks, a mac mini, and an iMac 27. But since the last 2 years need to upgrade, and have waited for Apple to release the next cutting edge devices. But in the end, touchscreens were left, and a touchbar came instead, which is silly, because you need to look at the screen when making alterations, not the touchbar, and nobody is using it, also developers are not adding its feature to their apps either, so its limited functionality. Its a silly idea anyway. As a reseult, i really do need to upgrade, and since Apple seem to not be going to make the Mac touchscreen, it seems im going to haave to switch operating systems. The current devices from Apple just don't inspire at all, just more of the same, with a few tweaks. The gimmicky portrait mode on the camera app, is in truth pretty useless, as most people would wish to use it for selfies, but you can't take a selfie with it, only pics of other people. Another stupid gimmick that is permanently in the camera app, but will only be used twice a year. as to the hearts and fireworks in iMessage, that app is so simple and has three little functions, and thats it. why would Apple insert such a gimmick permanently into iMessage, unless they are going to increase the finctionality of it and add more features? I bet its going to be left like that for years with only hearts, kisses and fireworks.. what a useless app

In my previous career, I handled service and technical support in a major U.S. cell phone carrier's store. So, I probably have more experience with phone issues than most people. This is not a common problem. That doesn't mean your problem isn't real. You have reported in another thread that the phone did this from the time you got it. However, for some reason, instead of dealing with the problem by returning it to Apple, you kept the phone and then keep complaining about it. I think it's quite possible you have a defective phone. What did Apple say when you took it in for service?

I have an iPhone 7 Plus that doesn't freeze, has great battery life and has never overheated, even when mounted on the dashboard in the summer sun with navigation and streaming music running.

I have a 7 Plus that kept freezing on me when I send an article, a photo or forward them to somebody by text. I did reset all settings and it is still happening. Very frustrating. I’m getting an iPhone X and I hope that this problem will not be happening with this new phone. Unfortunately im giving my old phone to my husband and I do hope there’s a patch to solve this freezing problem.

Hi, I had this problem with my 7 plus and everything froze, couldn’t use any screen buttons, home button or even close down. Googled on Mac and found a number of solutions on Apple which didn’t work initially. I put the phone down for 5 mins, tried over and over with different buttons, simultaneously, different angles! Not sure what worked but was able to close down. Reboot and so far no more problems. Back up done!
