Q: AirPort Broadcast Pass Through?

I have a current Apple Airport Extreme network servicing both CAT6 wired and wireless devices configured in DHCP/NAT. I have a 24-port DLink external switch connected to the Airport Extreme. A new device, which is hard-wired to the switch, connects A-OK to the hard-wired Mac Mini running a program managing the new device. The new device also has an iOS control program for my iPad, but the iPad cannot communicate with the new hard-wired device. Any suggestions?

The Gen 6 AirPort Extreme and the iPad Pro are capable of 802.11ac, faster than 802.11a/b/g/n. What think?

Well, that would be a good conclusion except the iPhone 6s Plus also supports 802.11ac.

Does your iPhone also run iOS 10? If not, the issue may be that SmartSDR app has not been updated for it.

I did have a chance to download and install SmartSDR on my iPad Pro and it appears to "work" with the dummy Flex 6700. The iPad is also running iOS 10, but not sure I can prove anything since I don't have the Flex device to test against. Sorry.

I downloaded the user guides for both the Flex device and SmartSDR software. Maybe something will jump out at me and I will let you know if there is anything else you can try.

The 2-page brochure for iOS was not very helpful, nor was I able to glean anything useful from the SmartSDR Software Guide for Windows.

The only other thing that comes to mind, but doesn't address why your iPhone connects but not the iPad, is the network name that you are using for your Wi-Fi network.

If it isn't already, two things:

    1. Keep the name to 16-alphanumeric characters or less and do not use spaces or special characters in the name.
    2. If you configured your Wi-Fi network as "hidden," disable these feature. AirPort Utility > Select the Extreme > Edit > Wireless tab > Wireless Options... > Create hidden network (unchecked)

Not hidden. Net name is pretty short and no special characters -- letters, numbers.

Yikes! Well the only other suggestions would be: 1) Try posting in the iPad area of the Apple Support Communities. Maybe another iPad user is familiar with this app and could help, and 2) See if FlexRadio Systems has a user support forum.

Sorry I wasn't able to work out a solution for you.

Resolution: the iPad app installation was defective somehow. Wiped it off the iPad Pro. Re-initialized the iPad Pro. Re-installed the program, and it worked beautifully. Sometimes we learn the easiest path is the best, not the most complicated. I did learn that the AirPort Extreme is quite effective and transparent about wired to wireless -- no heavy lifting required. Thanks again.
