Canon MG7520 not working since Sierra upgrade.

Macbook Pro not communicating with Canon MG7520. Tried reconnecting with USB at printer, no joy. Called Canon they are aware of Sierra issues. Anyone find a workaround until Canon & Apple get it together. If you have a Canon printer DONOT upgrade until you hear problem is resolved. How hard AND risky is it to go back to El Capitan via Time Machine. I backed up BEFORE upgrading. I never did it before.

Thanks

This may help, I have the MG7150 Printer/Scanner and the only issue currently is that on certain prints I get "Filter Failed" showing in the Print Queue and the photo never prints. Appears Canon USA are aware of issues for there drivers and state they are working with Apple for a fix as soon as possible (nothing yet on the UK site though) but for the above they do propose a work around.

I realise this does not help you but if my printer appears to communicate ok otherwise, might your issue just be down to some form of corruption!

Have you tried removing and then reinstalling your printer via "Printers & Scanners" under System Preferences, if you right click on your printer (left side headed Printers) and select "Reset printing system" this will clear your print system so you can then add your printer back by clicking on the "+" button towards the bottom left. When the "Add" box opens wait a few seconds so all the installed drivers (Apples and the Manufactures if you installed separately) appear - then just select which you require. In my case I have two "Canon MG7100 series" to choose from, the first is "Bonjour" and the second "Canon IJ Network" - see what appears for you and give all a try, one may work and get you going again.

Lastly, if you select the Bonjour option you can alter whats offered under "Use" from it's default (could be AirPrint) to another, in my case "Canon Mg7100 series".

First I Want to thank you for responding. About an hour ago my MBpro "saw" the printer, tried printing. Part of page printed, had the filter error message. I am happy it's demonstrating the error they are trying to correct. Tried reloading the El Capitan software on advice from Canon Support. They recommended trying this. It didn't work for me. It would not start the install. If I have to print on my MBpro I will try Canon's PDF workaround (a lot of steps). Wife has a pro running El Capitan, will do the must have printing that way. When I get my courage back I will do more experimenting with printer settings. Right now I have 2 Mg7500's listed, one offline and on idle. Canon gave me the impression a fix was coming pretty quick. Thank you SiHancox!

I've only tried a few things but it appears the error occurs if I try and edit the photos prior to print (Auto levels and Sharpness in Preview) - if I print without correcting it all seems to work ok. When I have time will try with Pixelmator to see if a similar problem exists using a different App.

Still, it's encouraging Canon appear to be responding quickly so I will wait for there driver update to appear before making any other changes (removing printer files at the system level).

Hi Stan0607,

You're welcome. I'm sure Canon will have an update soon.

I'm now waiting on an update for my ScanSnap scanner. Apparently the company has issued a warning to not use their software if you upgrade to Sierra. Something about possibly loosing the PDF's you scanned with the scanner. I haven't tried to do anything with that one yet. I figure there will be an update soon enough.

Canon has posted an ICA Scanner driver update under recommended updates and 3 software updates for Sierra. i emailed Canon support and they replied in 15 minutes. Advised it was entirely appropriate to install these updates. I did not do it yet. Going to wait until I have a block of time in case.... It's on the MG7520 support page.

Thanks for the info, appears the Scanner update v4.1.3 for MG7520 on US site has been available for sometime on the UK site - I'm already on that version and have been for a while (could be why the scanner side appears to work ok). Looks like the US might get updates posted quicker though than UK because that site still states they will "provide further info by end of Sept".

Just worth noting for those on different sides of the pond, models are not the same and the drivers can support various features so don't think those of us in the UK can use drivers posted on the US site for example (or vice versa).

Just viewed the Canon UK web site and noted they have just posted the first driver for Sierra, although it's only the one for ICA (scanner) and it appears the same version (v4.1.3) that was already available under El Capitan it non the less indicates things could be moving on the update front. Those in the US have had this shown for a few days though.

The above is for MG7150 or Series MG7100 printers, lets hope the updated printer driver (CUPS) follows as quickly.

Thanks, will do the same this side of the pond - looked into the different model availability between UK/US markets and it appear as long as we use the correct "series" all should work. That means I require 7100 Series that covers my 7150 (and the 7120 on your side) and you need 7500 Series that covers your 7520 (and the 7500, 7540, 7550 on my side). All a bit confusing but might prove useful if the drivers only appear on one side of the water for some strange reason!

Just noticed you're reply to Stan0607, have you tried editing prior to print - the reason I ask is for me it only happens if I apply some form of post process from within Preview (auto levels, sharpness etc) - so you still might have the problem but just have not come across it yet due to your work flow.

The other reason you might not have come across this issue is that you have actually set your printer up using the pre-installed Apple drivers that come with the OS and for what ever reason that way works fine. I require to use the manufactures drivers (not Apple supplied) to maintain functionality on the cd printing front. Anyhow, depending on how you have set up your printer you still might want to consider updating the print driver for Sierra when available - just a thought.
