Q: Apple Watch- "Hey Siri, call [name]"not working reliably.

1. When driving, I often use "Hey Siri" to call a friend using my Apple watch which used to initiate the call, then handoff to the iPhone 6S which in turn connected to the car's bluetooth stereo.

Today, repeatedly, Siri kept displaying on the watch, she can't find [name] in the contacts. Should she look on the internet.

I restarted both the watch (twice) and rebooted the phone but she kept saying she couldn't find the contact to call. (By this time I was already home parked in my driveway- basically defeating the purpose of handsfree dialling!)

I then tried asking what's [name]'s phone number which she promptly displayed on the screen (so clearly know's the person is on the contact list)

I tried once more asking Siri to call the friend, and the watch suddenly decided to make the call.

It's not the first time I've found "Hey Siri" to be unreliable to make a call on the watch but in the past, it usually made the call after a second try. Today the watch absolutely refused to acknowledge the person is on the contacts list, even after a couple of watch reboots. Very frustrating!

2. I've also noticed that when connected to the car's bluetooth, the dial tone is now heard on the watch until the call connects and then it will hand off to the phone and subsequently the car's stereo. Previously, once the watch started dialling, it would handoff so that I could hear the dialling  on the car's stereo.

Anyone else had these issues and any thoughts on preventing these glitches?

    Hi

    The following steps may help:

    • Reset your sync data:
      • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Reset > tap once on Reset Sync Data.
      • Nothing will seem to happen, but the process will run in the background / invisibly to you, so allow some time afterwards for it to complete.

    • If you use multiple Apple devices and have not yet done so, you may also wish to enable iCloud contacts, to keep contact data up to date across them them:
      • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > iCloud> turn on Contacts.
      • Similar on other devices (on a Mac: System Preferences > iCloud).
