Q: How can I access Quicken Essentials after installing Sierra?

After installing Sierra OS into my iMac vs 1012, Mid 2014, 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5, I am unable to use Quicken Essentials vs 1.7.4.  How do I fix this problem?

Have you tried updating Quicken Essentials?

I cannot access Quicken to update it, although I am pretty sure that it updates automatically, anyway.

Then you may need to contact Intuit and see if they support Sierra. If they do not then you will need to roll back the OS to a prior version that does support it. As long as you have been using Time Machine you should not have trouble rolling back the OS.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I think I am in trouble.  I probably didn't ever use Time Machine.  My error, but thanks anyway.   Cec5155

So do you back up your computer at all? If you don't then that is a HUGE error. It is not wise to operate any computer without a sound backup plan. Many experienced users on these forums have redundant backups because even backups can fail.

I would reach out to Intuit to see what they have to say. If they cannot help you then you will be forced to use a substitute for Essentials. Personally I made the switch years ago from Intuit as their support Mac's is substandard. Personally I use Banktivity which can import your Essentials data files so you don't lose any of your critical info. If that interests you, click https://www.iggsoftware.com/banktivity/

Quicken Essentials is a discontinued product and is not compatible with macOS Sierra. Quicken 2016 is the current supported version and works quite well with Sierra. I am quite pleased with Quicken 2016 and it will import your Quicken Essentials data file easily, as well as Quicken 2007 data files.

AS stated, Quicken Essentials support from Intuit stopped in 2015 (maybe earlier). Anyway, it is certainly a dead product today.  I had the same problem when I upgraded to Sierra.  I read the details for Quicken 2016 and it looked good, ran on Sierra and would import Essentials files.  I purchased it from the App Store and imported my Essentials data.  I hated it!  Looks different and wanted to contact my bank and keep my data on an Intuit server.  No way.... so I returned it the following day.

For the moment I have gone back to Yosemite (so glad I had a full backup) just so I can keep Quicken Essentials. I expect that there is code within Essentials that checks the OS version and prevents it from running on Sierra., not an Apple problem. I sure hate Intuit! I will try the suggestion made earlier in this thread because Sierra sounds great.
