[iPhone 7 Plus] Apps not downloading

Hi all,

So I restored my iPhone from backup but found that none of my apps were downloading, they were just stuck on 'waiting' for like 2 hours.

I then set the phone up as new in the hopes of then just being able to download apps new. However that has failed too.

I've found that the app store in general is not really working properly with none of the pictures loading, and it taking ages to search for stuff. This is kinda weird considering my internet is perfectly fine on my MAC nearby.

Any thoughts?

If you still have the problem, try this. Turn WiFi off or turn Airplane Mode on which accomplishes the same thing. Force restart your phone, then turn WiFi on or Airplane Mode off. Then try to download again.

In order to force restart your phone....on an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo. On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Hey! So I was going crazy when this was happening to me and decided to live chat with apple. After two hours the one representative asked me if I tried to press the "update all" button instead of just update on a single app. I never did before he said to and I tried and it literally fixed everything. All of my apps updated and I was finally able to download new ones! Haven't had an issue since. I'm not sure if this will help you but maybe give it a shot!

After several hours of waiting, I tried a combo of the following 3 suggestions, and now app downloads are zipping along:

  • Reset my internet
  • Go into Settings-iTunes and App Store-turn on apps and updates (both are separate)
  • Going onto the App Store, searching for the 'waiting' apps, then clicking on the 'download from iCloud icon', let it download.

Thanks, all!

What's worked for me is going onto the App Store, searching for the 'waiting' apps, then clicking on the 'download from iCloud icon', let it download. Then when I go back to my home screen, the apps are working fine. It seems to be a hiccup (for me anyway) with the apps downloading from my iCloud backup, but hey, I'm really not technical.

I have been having this same issue along with general odd behavior on my iPhone 7. I have 50+ apps that will not update. It freezes all the time, maps will not work half the time. This is by far the worst apple product I have owned. If Steve Jobs was alive, he would be firing people left and right. My iPhone is only slightly edging out my brand new $3600 15" MacBook Pro for most bugs. I have had two calls to service for a brand new laptop and came very close to having to reinstall everything on it. I am a apple owner of more than 10 years and manage a business with 10+ Macs including two apple servers so I know how to troubleshoot my own problems and I know what level of performance these machines are supposed to have and there is something wrong.

/rant

So to recap - I am having the same issue and I have:

1) hard reset my phone

2) tried to updated software on my phone (it is up to date)

3) Reset network settings on the phone

4) tried individually updating apps

5) tried deleting and reinstalling (then they won't reinstall)

6) changed settings in iTunes & App Store (updates & Apps)

7) Tried on three different networks

SO whoever is moderating this thread can you PLEASE mark it NOT SOLVED by a simple router reset.

The only thing I can think to do is to wipe the phone and start over and I should not have to do that on a device that is less than 6 months old.

I'm having the same problem and I've only had the iPhone 7 for 2 months. I deleted an app and have not been able to re-install it. I tried resetting the phone, turning it off & on, resetting my network setting, turning on automatic updates but nothing works. I also tried backing up my phone when connected to wifi and it stayed on the working status but never actually backed up the data. Have you been able to resolve the issue? I really need to download this app as it has my daily commuter pass and I have no other way to access it.

I've had so many iPhones since the iPhone 3 and by far this iPhone 7 has been the most glitchy and frustrating phone to date. I'm starting to hate it. Smh it even lagged while typing this. Help please! Thanks!!

Try resetting network settings on the phone. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You will have to enter your WiFi passwords again.

I Have seen situations where my two Macs, and my iPhone would connect to the internet but my iPad would not. Rebooting my router, restarting the device or resetting network settings would get me back on track.

Try deleting them and then download again. Delete them like this.

Go to Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage>Storage>Manage Storage. The list of apps will load. Tap on one of the "waiting" app icons. Tap Delete in the next screen.

Just try one app and see if you can download it again. If it works, delete all of the waiting apps and download again.

Hello,

I have (almost) the same problem on an iPhone 6S. These are the symptoms:

- can't update any apps - when i tap "Update", the update process get stuck at the very beginning (With the stop sign in the middle, without any progress)

- can't download new apps - as above

- Settings > General > Software Update tells me "Unable to Check for Update"

- Meanwhile the system is slow, sometimes sluggish, sometimes I have to wait seconds after launching an app (e.g. Facebook, Outlook, Tumblr, even Settings) to start

- the phone itself sometimes gets very hot

- also it drains the battery down REALLY fast. (Sometimes it can be 1 percent per minute while i am not doing anything on the phone)

What I've tried, without any luck:

- restarting the phone

- Reset network settings

- Reset all settings

- force restart the phone (with keeping home + lock pressed for 10 or so seconds)

- sign out and sign in into the app store

- sign out and sign in into iCloud (just to be sure)

- killing the App Store (with removing it from the stack)

- refreshing App Store (with pressing the Updates button at the bottom righ corner 10 or so times quicky)

- all of the above with different order - many times

- also tried to restore the phone - without any of my data it seemed to work well, but when i restored the backup, it just got into the same state

I have a feeling that this all is somewhat related to my photos. The Photos app keeps doing something in the background when I open it, despite the fact, that it already scanned all of my photos, and uploaded back all of them into iCloud. Also, the Photos app can be extremely slow - after selecting someone in the People album, it can be 5-15 seconds to actually get into that folder.
