Safari 10 breaks clicktoplugin, autoplays everything

Some video is now using HTML5, which Safari doesn't prevent from autoplaying by default, and for which there doesn't seem to be any Safari plugin to turn off autoplay.

This trick worked for me, stopping annoying autoplay of video on news (and other) websites:

open Terminal app, paste and enter these two lines of code...

defaults write com.apple.Safari "com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2RequiresUserGestureForMedia Playback" -bool true

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitVideoPlaybackRequiresUserGesture -bool true

It's super super annoying. C2P is something I have really come to rely on and it's really annoying that's it's well and truly broken beyond repair. Likewise the useful YouTube 5 player which pretty much broke ages ago. Hoping there is a replacement soon.

I LOVE ClicktoPlugin. I used it all the time to right-click on and download videos. Safari 10 ended that.

I copied Safari 9 over from a backup and it runs, and it blocks auto-play, but the right-click to download video option is gone.

Probably something to do with some Safari support files that I also need to find and copy over from the backup. I'll post back here if I'm able to get C2P working 100% again.

I have no idea how to fix it, but have been seeing the thing with many different websites, but not all of them. Also, when I try to enlarge a video to full screen on my local TV news website, nothing happens.

I've switch to using Firefox for some sites.

The developer stopped work on the plugin so there won't be a fix coming . Blames Apple's developer restrictions.

I found a Safari extension that lets you download YouTube videos and it works well. It's named FastestTube. It doesn't stop the auto-play, though.

Mine broke too, but I couldn't get anything on YouTube to play until I disabled CtP.

APPLE: YOU HEAR THIS?! This seems like a step backward. Please fix this ASAP!

Not Apple's fault. The extension isn't being developed any more and we are lucky it has lasted as long as it has.

Actually, without placing blame, I think both the developers and Apple are in an incredible position to listen to the people, and improve.

You can re-enable ClickToPlugin, believe it or not, by re-enabling the Flash plugin (which Safari 10 disables by default).

Go to Preferences, click the "Security" tab, click "Plug-in Settings," and check the box next to "Adobe Flash Player."

Scott I Love You!!!! Enable Flash and BAM! Clicktoplugin is working perfectly again!!! No more auto-play and I can right-click and download videos again.
