Q: iOS 10: app updates downloaded twice

Hi everybody,

I'm experiencing a very strange issue that I've never seen in other iOS versions: basically when I open the App store on my iPhone and I run app updates (when available), each app is downloaded twice: as soon as the percentage circle completes, it "rollback" and start the downloading process from the beginning.

It's not only a matter of time (I can of course wait for the apps to be downloaded twice), but also the data consumption is doubled.

At the end of the update process the apps work properly; it seems a matter related to the download (or install?) process.

I have an iPhone 6s Plus; iOS 10 has been installed from iTunes and the iPhone has been setup as a "new iPhone" without restoring any backup.

Is anybody else experiencing the same ?

My wife has an iPhone 6s plus as well and she installed iOS 10 via WiFi; I can say her iPhone doesn't have this issue.

Thanks in advance to everybody,

Stefano.

I have noticed the same thing on occasion. Hopefully this will be addressed by Apple.

P.S. It does not seem to be your problem

    Hi Barry,

thanks for your very prompt reply.

Hope Apple will fix this very soon because in my case it happens every time I update an app, not occasionally.

Anyway, the fact I'm not alone make me feel a little better

    Thanks !

    Hi Stephano76,

I do have the same problem, very annoying...

Ever since I upgraded to iOS 10 (all versions since it was rolled out), I noticed app updates are downloaded twice, regardless of connection type (Wi-Fi, 4G/3G).

I have an iPhone 6s that I upgraded to iOS 10 via restore in iTunes + backup restore.

I really hope Apple will fix this glitch in the next iOS update!

In the meantime, let's be patient!

    Thanks

    Hi Galactorus,

this issue keeps happening on my iPhone but I noticed that once an app has been updated at least once, all the next updates for the same app work fine (downloaded & installed only one time, as it should be).

I installed the apps via iTunes, so maybe something went wrong during the copy process from the iMac to the iphone.

It seems that for some reasons the Appstore tries to install the update but fails, so the app is removed and reinstalled again from scratch. This is my idea at least.

Anyway this is very weird; it never happened to me with any previous iPhone/iOS versions.

    Ciao !
