Q: Is there an equation editor in Pages?

I am using OS Sierra and just updated Pages. I write a lot of technical papers that involve equations; is there an equation editor in Pages?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), macOS Sierra (10.12)

No. It is not a Word clone.

However, you can download the free trial of MathType for Mac, and if you launch it before Pages v5.6.2, then it allows insertion of inline equations into your Pages documents. The MathType trial will end in 30-days, at which time the product simply becomes the free MathType lite version, and you can continue to use it. You would have to inquire with them about compatibility with macOS Sierra, and Pages v6.0.

MathType is a newer, more fully featured product that is created by the same company that originally made the Equation Editor for MS Office.

There is also the OS X Grapher utility (Launchpad : Other : Grapher) where you can construct equations and then copy them into Pages — but these are neither inline, or as slick as LaTeX math equations.
