Final Cut Pro X text not working properly

I have Final Cut Pro X on my MacBook Air and I am having a problem with it. Every time I add text onto a clip it becomes choppy. Like it doesn't flow smoothly. It looks like it's skipping frames. This only happens when I put my own text into it. Until then it works fine. How can I fix this or what is causing this?

Sounds like the computer not fast enough. Have you rendered it?

To render, select the section you want and press control-R or press ctrl-Shift-R for "Render All".

Also, try selecting "Better Quality" instead of "Better Performance" from the dropdown "View" at the top right of the viewer:
