Hello,
I am experiencing a problem with my safari reading list. I no longer have the option to remove individual items from the list. The small gray X that is supposed to appear in the top right corner of the item/article has completely disappeared. Leaving me with a full reading list and no way to empty it. I do not want to remove the list completely, I only want to remove individuals items.
My computer is a Macbook Pro OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

You can right click on an item and select to remove it, but I think it was foolish/a mistake to remove the X for removal. Maybe they will add it back in with an update.

In the meantime, just right click and select remove. Hardly ideal, but better than clutter.

I just ran into the same problem. And right after I followed the instructions provided by "Thebookseer," I accidentally discovered that when the cursor is on an item and I swipe to the left, a red button appears to remove it. Serendipity can be so satisfying! (now if I can just figure out how to send this reply...)
