MacBook Pro keeps reverting back to old name

I changed my name on my MacBook Pro, but anytime I connect a new device, the old name comes up. The new name is still there in Users and Groups. Is there something different I need to do?

Howdy katesiemens,

I understand that you're attempting to change your account name on your MacBook Pro, but see the old name when connecting to other devices. Fortunately, the steps outlined in the section titled "Change the account name and home folder name" in the article below, while a good bit more complex, will effect the desired change.
