Q: Mac OS X 10.11.6 Finder hangs every time I save a Pages document with tags assigned

Ever since the latest Mac OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan update and Pages (version 5.6.2 (2573)) update, whenever I save a new Pages document with tags assigned, it causes Finder to hang as Pages tries to save the file. Spinning colored wheel of death. The Pages file is, in fact, saved, but it causes Finder to hang and nothing will bring Finder back except a Relaunch. Summary Information from hang reports (two) included below. Solution?

    Hi there, alp1116!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. After reading your post, I am understanding that attempting to save a Pages document with tags causes Finder to become unresponsive; you have to relaunch Finder from the Force Quit menu to get it working again. I definitely know it's important for saving documents to go smoothly, and I'd be happy to help!

I've got a few troubleshooting steps I can recommend. Please try the following in order; test trying to save a Pages document with tags after each one.  Stop when the issue is resolved.
    1. Quit Pages, then relaunch while holding the Shift key.

    2. Restart your Mac by clicking the Apple  menu and selecting Restart... from the drop down

    3. Try saving a tagged Pages document in safe mode. Instructions on booting to safe mode and more information on it can be found here: Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up

Even though the title isn't specific to your issue, safe mode is still a great step to take. It runs a scan of your system during boot, and disables certain software and processes that may be causing a conflict.

    4. Try saving a tagged Pages document in a new user account. You can get some more information on how testing in another user can be helpful, and how to set up a new user account, in this article: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

    Cheers!

In Safe Mode, after I created a new Pages document that had one line of text in it, and saved it with 5 tags, I got the spinning wheel of death again. I checked Activity Monitor and is said Finder, Pages and something called com.apple.appkit.xpc.openandSavePanelService ALL were not responding. In addition, while in Safe Mode, my Mac's display has constant vertical lines that keep moving up the display. In the past, this vertical line thing used to happen just once when I first logged in with Safe Mode and now it is happening constantly, making it very difficult to use my Mac in Safe Mode. Here is the screensaver showing the apps not responding, and it also shows Windowserver using 167% CPU, com.apple.appkit.xpc.openandSavePanelService using 109%, Finder using 105% and Pages using 0%.

It took forever, but Pages finally came back this time. Something clearly is not working properly for this to be happening.

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

    Hi Eric -

Sorry it took me so long. I have been traveling and away from my Mac. Problems continue with spinning wheels. It takes forever for my Mac to generate the dock and image icons on my desktop. Literally today when I logged on, it took over 20 minutes to get my Mac up and loaded to where I could click on an app in the dock and have it execute properly. I used the link you supplied above and it produced a report in image format that seems to have nothing to do with my system. Do I need to download the Etresoft application first before doing the steps you suggested above? When I click on the link above, it says that it is generating a report, but the report (image) that it generates has information in it that is not for my system. Here is the image that appears when I click on the link you provided (Copy and Paste is disabled so I had to use Grab to capture and save it).

    EtreCheck report 2016-09-24.jpg

As you can see, it seems to think that I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014 with 16GB RAM). And it seems to think that the date is January 12th. None of this information is for my Mac. I have an iMac (27-inch, Mid-2011) with 32GB RAM. Here is a copy of My Mac system info for comparison (with serial number removed):

    Hi Eric -

I tried to run the Etrecheck report from the link you provided, but it creates a report that has nothing to do with my system. Copy and paste is disabled using that link, so I used Grab to capture the report (which was in image format). I just inserted that image in a reply to you and the reply did not post. So it seems that Apple Support Communities will not let me post that image. I'll try again:

    EtreCheck report 2016-09-24.jpg

    I do not have a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 CPU 4-core MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with 16GB RAM as the report/image indicates. I have a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 iMac (27-inch,  Mid 2011) with 32GB 1333 MHz DDR3.

Do I need to download the Etrecheck software in order to run the report you referenced? Because the link you provided seemed to run something (It said generating report). But all that appeared was the image above.

    Am I missing something?
