Macos Sierra not installing in macbook Air

I am trying to upgrade to macos Sierra on my 2014 macbook Air. I downloaded the upgrade and whenever i tried to update it my installer gets stuck at 'Installing: About 29 minutes remaining'. Its stuck in this stage for over 6 hours and I dont know what is wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Anyone else having the problem? Many thanks!

I'm having this problem too. 2012 iMac. I have just replaced a cracked screen and took the opportunity to install an SSD (SATA).

I internet-booted to Recovery mode, formatted the drive, and re-installed the OS. Apparently Internet Recovery will only install the OS that came on the computer. (In this case, Mountain Lion.) That went fine. I set up the computer, downloaded the Sierra installer from the App Store, and ran it. I ended up with the OP's symptoms exactly. Stuck at "29 minutes remaining."

I had previously tried a Time Machine restore of the drive that was previously in it. The Mac seemed to boot, but at the end of the sequence, just when the Desktop should load, I get the "No" symbol (circle with a slash).

Do this:

Repair the Drive for El Capitan

  1. Restart the computer and after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears.
  2. Select Disk Utility and press the Continue button.
  3. Then select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the the side list.
  4. Click on the First Aid tab in the toolbar and wait for the Done button to activate. Click on it, then quit Disk Utility.
  5. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Now, re-run the Sierra installer.

Thank you very much for the replies Carolyn and Kappy. I did like what you have suggested but still the installer gets stuck at that time frame showing "Installation in progress: About 29minutes remaining". While installing, after showing this message, the computer was shut down automatically, which i found to be bit weird. After manual restart it went back to the same state of showing 29 min remaining. Confused!

I have exactly the same problem on mac book pro 2011. The mac sierra installer reached 33% and will not go any further.

Terrible job, must not of been tested on the older models very slack of apples deployment team indeed. I hope sierra works well and is not going to slow me down any more. The best version in terms of speed was still 10.7.5 its all been downhill since then sadly.
