Hello josh8167 and welcome to Apple Support Communities! If the earbuds are still in their warranty, I would suggest to go to your local Apple Store and see if they can replace your earbuds their. If not, I am afraid that you may have to buy new earbuds. Also, have you tried the earbuds with another device? I hope this helps!

    Hi

Follow the instructions here, including contacting Apple Support or making a Genius Bar reservation if necessary with a view to having your EarPods replaced under warranty:

Update: This is a glitch within iOS 10, Apple is working to fix this. If you can't wait,I suggest doing what Jonathan UK said above. If you can wait, just hold on a little bit longer until  releases a software update where they will fix this glitch ( knows that this bug exists and they are planning to squash it). Another option is to participate in the iOS 10 public beta program. I hope this helps!

I thought the bug they were working on is the controls failing to work.

I have read some recent articles talking about a bug where new earbuds don't work at all. Or, it could also be the earbuds.

Another option is to participate in the iOS 10 public beta program

Participating in the public beta program does not help in solving someone's problems; in fact, one should never install a beta on a production machine (or iDevice). Additionally, public beta testers have no forum to discuss any problems they encounter and would be violating their NDA if they tried. Other than using the Feedback Assistant app to send a bug report, there is no other interaction for them with Apple, so it is not helpful to suggest installing a beta to solve someone's problem.

Would you kindly post a link to the official Apple article addressing the earbud problem since you stated that Apple is working on it.
