Sierra Mail Slow

Hi guys,

My current machine:

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)

Processor: 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB; Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

My issue:

I updated to Sierra yesterday and everything is working fantastic except for one thing: My Mail is slow, to be more specific it takes about 2 seconds to show the content of the mail on the far right when I click on a new email. This is for all emails I receive, not only emails with attachments. Everything else relating to speed for Mail is perfect - this is only isolated to the loading of email content.

I would appreciate any feedback to try and resolve this.

I have Microsoft Office 2011 installed and updated but I am not using Outlook now. Perhaps I should. I have had some significant improvement since uninstalling Mail Butler and then rebuilding mailboxes. Mail still is slower than in El Capitan and still slower than accessing Mail in iOS. Now it is just an irritating hesitation after clicking on a new email note or deleting a note. Probably between 1 and 2 seconds delay. Interestingly Yahoo IMAP account seems faster than Gmail IMAP account.

Have the same issue and the rebuild did not help. Is there a way to export all mail to an archive?

System is an 2014 5K iMac 32G / 3Tb

Time to begin thinking about moving away from Apple. I remember the last time I concluded this, pre the Steve-Jobs resurrection. Apple used to be so thoroughly convinced that their utterly crappy OS was the best in the world and that everything their programmers did was golden, that eventually the entire company almost died under the weight of all that hubris.

Perhaps another near-death experience is required to clear everyones head again.

I have the same issue.

I fix it by turn off "Highlight messages with color when not grouped".

After this Mail speed up and stop lagging.

First off THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was really at whits end on this issue, as were a few collegues who also had this issue. How Apple can release a major update which retards your system to this extent is a mystery. No idea how you found this but I tried it and it seemed to do the trick, my collegue too.

I have this too, and problems with indexing. But 'rebuild' seems to do nothing - if I select this menu item with a mailbox highlighted nothing seems to happen

Thanks pawciu. I tried reindexing, rebuilding, and even rebuilding my user account from scratch with little or no improvement. Turning off the "Highlight messages with color when not grouped" option gave a huge improvement in Mail performance.

Thanks very much pawclu, unchecking "Highlight messages with color when not grouped" also fixed my slow Mail problems. Not sure how you figured this out, but awesome.

Mail still got Problems on my MacBook Pro 2015.

Currently I can't draw on images.

The Mail App is anything else but "Pro".

I noticed all the same behaviour as everyone else when I had my account settings for "Download Attachments" to be "None". Once I changed it to "Recent", performance was back to normal.

I have exact same issue with both Mail and Safari since upgrading to Sierra on my 1 month old iMac.

Mail just beachballs me for 10 mins with no other apps open, the freezes. Totally unusable. Selecting rebuild doesn't seem to do anything, not sure if it is rebuilding or not when asked, just unresponsive.
