How to restore "Slide to unlock" in iOS10? Unlock time has tripled for me

I can't use Touch ID, because my thumb is too scarred - it isn't recognized by the system.

Previously to unlock my phone I took it out of the pocket, pushed the Home button to wake the phone up and quickly swiped to get the Passcode screen.

Now I have to wait an extra second before pushing the Home button, because double-tap doesn't work: you literally have to wait for the phone to fully wake up before it lets you to request the Passcode screen.

Instead of two quick gestures, now I have to carefully time my actions to successfully unlock the phone. I'm not even talking about the obvious extra wear the Home button gets - for now it's a matter of basic usability for me.

What do I do? Thanks.
