Changing input source with Caps Lock key not working

It should be possible to change input source with the Caps Lock key on macOS Sierra,

and I have checked 'Toggle ABC input source with Caps Lock' in System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Source.

However, it doesn't work and Caps Lock still only works as Caps Lock.

I've tried rebooting, resetting keyboard shortcuts, disabling Siri, resetting NVRAM, resetting SMC but still not working.

I've been only using the default input source, and haven't installed and programs related to the keyboard or the input source.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have any anti-virus software installed and I'm trying to switch betweed English-Korean.

This is what I wrote above

I just found out that switching input sources with Caps Lock key works when editing conversations in Siri and only when editing conversations in Siri.

Also, I've been searching the web for this error, and many of them had to do with an application installed, which differ case by case.

Some people said that an app called 'Karabiner' was messing up, and switching input sources with Caps Lock key started to work well after uninstalling it.

Some people said that an app called 'BeardedSpice' was causing the problem.

I don't know what's causing the problem in my case since I have neither of them installed,

but I think this Caps Lock key function causes conflictions with some of the apps out there.

Thank you for the reply.

However, I do know how to do it, and the problem is that it is not working.

Greetings slwsbl!

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you would like to change the input source with the caps lock key on macOS Sierra. I can understand the importance of wanting to use a specific key when changing inputs. I'm happy to assist you with this.

This is possible to do. Please take a look at the Mac Help User Guide , specifically, this section:

Switch between input sources

To switch between input sources, do any of the following:

  • Use the Input menu: Click the Input menu in the menu bar, then choose an input source. If an input source is dimmed, the current app doesn’t support it.

  • Use the Caps Lock key: Press the Caps Lock key to switch between a non-Latin input source (such as Chinese or Korean) and a Latin input source (such as French or English).

To use this method, you must select the “Use Caps Lock to switch to and from” option in the Input Sources pane. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Keyboard, then click Input Sources.

  • Use keyboard shortcuts: Press Option-Control-Space bar to select the next input source in the Input menu, or Control-Space bar to select the previous input source.

Best Regards.

I just found out the same thing. If I open Spotify, I can hit Caps Lock and switch b/w English and Arabic input sources. If I leave Spotify running and switch to another app, the Caps Lock key only functions as a caps lock. But if I close Spotify completely, I can switch between other input sources perfectly fine. I think it has to do with the media keys being tied to Spotify when it's running. If I'm playing music on iTunes though, the media keys still function without screwing up my input sources.
