Carplay partners governance model?

Hi,

I'm not sure if anyone made this question already, but since there are a lot of problems related to iOS versions/Carplay and car manufacturers I believe it's a good question.

As a background, I'm an owner of a Volkswagen Sharan (AUG2016) and purchased the AppConnect extra to connect my iPhone. To my surprise, as I haven't seen any information on supported iOS models while doing my simulations online, it seems that VW AppConnect only supports iOS8.3 which, if I'm not wrong was released in April 2015.

So my problem is that I've purchased an extra for my car that is completely useless with my current phone (iOS 9.3.5) and If I'm not wrong, I cannot simply install 8.3 on my phone now.

My question is, if anyone been through this that would like to share their experience and if Apple has any governance model that "mandates" for the car manufacturers to update their compatability to latest iOS versions.

In my opinion this is damaging Apple brand as I purchased the extra believing that I would extend my iOS user experience to my car.
