iPhone 7 will not play audio through car's USB port.

When I plug my iPhone 7 Plus into my car's ('15 Jeep Grand Cherokee) USB port, the artist/song/podcast information appears on the screen, but the audio only plays through the phone's speakers. I confirmed that my settings are all the same as they were on my 6s Plus, which played with no problems through the USB connection. Bluetooth streaming works fine - no issues at all. Any ideas, or is this a similar issue to the one people are having with CarPlay?

iPhone 7 lighting cable to vehicles USB not working! Go to setting >about> you should see songs if it has zero just download 1 song from iTunes and that will do it. Spotify, pandora, etc will now work through USB. If you don't have at least 1 song it doesn't recognize it and you will not be able to play through USB. So weird as iPhone 6 worked fine but 7 needs to see 1 song in library.

Is there any songs that I can download that you know of? Cuse unfortunately I can’t really see any songs that don’t cost me money. Please it would help if you could tell me a song that’s free that I could download to activate my aux back into working shape, thanks.

I drive 2012 Cadillac CTS and my iPhone 7 plus doesn't connect though USB and when I try to connect it though AUX cable with adapter it only plays though driver side speaker but not passanger's. My 6S Plus never had this problem. I went though Settings > General > About and it says I have 15 songs. I took my CTS to Cadillac dealership and they said it plays fine with every other device. Pls help.

I was having the same problem - USB data connection to car stopped working after the iOS update and generated the message “USB ERROR” in one car and “Version Not Supported” in another (both Hondas). None of the suggestions posted online worked for me. Then, when having trouble getting my iPhone to serve as a personal hotspot for my iPad at a conference, I googled that problem. One suggestion was to reset the network settings. I did that and it worked to reestablish the hotspot connection between devices. When I got back in the car an hour later and plugged the same phone into USB to charge, the USB connection was suddenly working again for data as well. I now have music back in the car.

Hope this helps

I was having this same issue in my '11 Honda Pilot Touring. Calls via Bluetooth functioned normally, but playback via USB displayed "UNSUPPORTED VER." After trying to load for about a full minute. This happened out of the blue a few nights ago. It had been playing just fine, I hadn't even turned my vehicle off. I initially thought it was the cable itself and blamed my son and made him buy me a new one. He was charging his phone and when he was getting out of the car, he yanked the cable instead of gently removing it like a normal person. However, last night I tried connecting to my home stereo receiver via USB (different cable) and received a similar error message. After finding this post and updating the network carrier settings, we are back in business!! Thank God, because the daily commute with only FM stations had me contemplating the actual value of my life. But I'm happy to say that I'm no longer vehicularly suicidal :) Happy updating, everyone!

Best solution, it even worked for iPhone 8 and 8+ too.

I wasted 2 weeks talking to apple care and driving to car dealer for help.

Is this an iPhone 7 (Plus) hardware lightning port issue or a software issue? Still fails with iOS 11.1.2, as well several previous versions.

Given there are 1200+ people with this issue, maybe we need to get Apple to replace our iPhone 7s because they can’t seem to fix it with software.

Congratulations on your new iPhone 7 Plus! I see you're connecting it with your Jeep Grand Cherokee using the USB port. Everything seems to work correctly, except the music plays through the phone instead. I'll be glad to help you get that working.
