Crazy screeching sound when answering calls through EarPods w/ Lightning connector

When I take phone calls through lightning pods, there's a loud screeching noise immediately after answering, and then I'm able to speak and listen normally. Anyone else notice this? I haven't had an issue with the removal of the 3.5 jack until now, but I'm realizing there are a couple issues with the lightning port that are pretty annoying (see my post on issues playing audio via lightning/USB connection).
