Q: received unread mail disappearing

An odd phenomenon on my imac...

Apple mail running in El Capitan or in Sierra is open and the window in the Dock, while another app is running in the foreground. Safari for example.

An IMAP account receives a mail in the background. Mail gives a "Ping" sound and marks the Icon in the dock. My phone receives the same mail and my macbook pro, too.

I wait a little bit, keep working with Safari, then bring the mail window back from the dock into the foreground. I see the new mail with the red dot and... it disappears right in front of me.

If I wait within around 10 min the mail reappears. Or I can quit mail, restart it, press receive and the mail is back.

Now the Odd things:

It started on El Capitan, only on this account and only on this mac. All my other devices receive the same mail without a problem or delay.

Here is what I have tried:

-Rebuild mailbox

-Double check the settings for that account. Especially compared to my flawless MacBook Pro

-delete mails preferences and old V2 folder

-Delete the account from System Preferences, restart and create the account completely new.

Don't know what else to try. The issue is still there..

Weird. No other account of all in all 4 is affected.

anyone a clue?

Thanks!
