Week old iPhone 7 128 gb shows "invalid sim" error intermittently. Nothing in particular seems to cause it. Just shows up randomly. If I power down and reboot it resolves for a while. I'm getting once or twice a day now. Anyone else having this issue? How do I fix it? I plan to go back to the Apple Store where I got it tomorrow.

Take it back and get a refund. Then use the refund to purchase a new unit. This procedure keeps the transactions separate and, in case you have problems with the new one, the return-for-refund timer will have been restarted.
If Apple gave a decent return time, this wouldn't be necessary but you have only two weeks.
Yes! I have the same phone and I get this error occasionally. I have to power down, restart the phone and it's fine!
I'm not quite getting this error as often, but I agree with your suggestion that this is not related to the SIM card. Did you learn anything fro the Apple Store?

Yes, you should take it back to the Apple Store while you're in your return/exchange period.
I would probably get a new SIM card as that might be the problem. I was having this problem when I originally got the iPhone 6 and switching out the SIM card helped me out.
So looked up how to remove the SIM card. Very easy to do. Pulled the card out and noticed there was an oily film or residue on the contacts. Cleaned the film off with a cloth and reinstalled the SIM card. So far so good. I will repost if it happens again or if it goes a week with no issues.

The same issue happens to me. Everything started when I changed the SIM card from one operator to another . Now, randomly , show invalid card. I deleted all iPhone and I configured as a new iPhone ... now is working

Yes I am still working with this problem. I called Apple Care two times ( I have an open case) and the advised me to format the iPhone (1) and in the second call to change the SIM card for a new one. Even with the new YOIGO Sim Card the problem was there and on 30th November I moved to MOVISTAR ( yoigo and movistar both of them are spanish cellular companies). If the case repeat again I will go to Apple Store for a new iPhone to replace this one ( Apple Care asked me to do it).
