Font issues in Powerpoint Mac 2011 since Sierra install

I successfully installed Sierra on the 20th, but since have had issues in Microsoft Powerpoint. I'm using Office 2011 for Mac. The errors are with regard to Fonts and have never come up before.

Powerpoint needs to install: Osaka, ST heiti, STfangsong and ST Kaiti.

Why? What changed? And how do I get rid of this error? It comes up every time I open PPT.

Thanks!

I had a similar problem with MS, and clear my font cache with the terminal command resolving problem.

To do that, from the Terminal, enter the following command string and hit return. This uses sudo, which requires the an administrator password to execute:

sudo atsutil databases -remove

This will remove all font databases and caches from the OS X system and users.

I have recently encountered the same problem. The download prompt was triggered from Outlook for Mac. As it is strange, I skip the download when it prompted.

As it is a Font package (STKaiti), therefore, i decided to go to Font Book of Mac and manually download by myself.

I guess the point is that if you are prompted and you are uncertain that download is legit. Better you skip and then go to the genuine Mac app - Font Book - to manage the download by yourself.

Good Luck!

I had the same exact issue. But in my case PowerPoint gave an option to download right from the pop-up message. When I clicked to download it would just hang.

I tried your solution with Font Book, and sure enough those fonts were disabled. But again, downloading from Font Book would just hang. Then I remembered that I am blocking some sites with a firewall on my home network to prevent the annoying iOS update reminders. Those sites are:

  • appldnld.apple.com
  • mesu.apple.com

Once I turned off that firewall I was able to download the missing fonts, both from Font Book and directly from the error message in PowerPoint.
