How to use the apple watch series 2 for running

After receiving my new apple watch (series 2), I am still struggling to figure out how to record a run without being tethered to the phone. Ive tried wahoo, polar beat, strava and nike run club and all of them required me to be linked to my phone in order to get proper results.

I then tried using the stand alone workout that comes with the watch and that works, but I did not see any gps data.

As an avid runner I was eager to purchase this watch when I learned that it included a gps chip...but from what I am seeing, this watch cannot be used without linking to the phone.

Hi

Check the following settings:

On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:

  • Check that Location Services is turned on.
  • Check that Apple Watch Workout is set to While Using.

After using the built-in Workout app to record an Outdoor Run workout (without taking your iPhone along), allow a short time after your iPhone and Apple Watch have reconnected and then review your workout in the Activity app on your iPhone (Workouts tab).
