MacOS Sierra - time machine stuck preparing backup on Network devices

Since I updated to macOS Sierra, can only use my local USB drive to backup. TimeMachine is stuck with the "preparing backup" message - over 12 hours - for network devices, an Apple FileVault and another NAS device. Works fine with local USB drive.

Something funny going on with network devices as it's working for local discs.

Hope Apple take note and fix.

Been reading a few comments on here. First off, you need anti virus on a Mac, anybody who says different has no idea what they are talking about. I see two or three infections a month on Macs at work. There are viruses for OSX and no macs don't have built in protection for these. Gone are the days when people say macs don't get viruses, they do. Secondly, I have been using sophos for years and never had problem on a mac. I have never heard of them been "trouble makers". Granted the problem is connected to antivirus, but we are early adopters of a new OS and things like this happen. It is more than likely apple has changed something and the antivirus companies have not caught up. I have had issues like this every time a new OS is release, last time citrix stop working. Its part of the course, but please don't tell people they don't need anti virus on Macs, because it is simply not true anymore sadly.

Only the gullible need Anti Virus, there are no viruses for OS X, those who believe there are are fooling themselves and doing a great disservice to others.

But carry on while we ignore you.

Ok so what was MACDefender or Thunderstrike 2 viruses last year, a figment of everybody's imagination? The raise of mac malware is the stuff of myth and legend is it? Seriously the only person doing a disservice is you. Why it is less lightly macs can get infected over windows, it is by no means impossible.

Apple do build some protection into OSX or Mac OS, but it is not 100%. This is taken from apples website

(/macosx/security): 'no system can be 100 percent immune from every threat, antivirus software may offer additional protection'

It is also worth noting that there are number of emails sending out virus targeting windows computers which mac antivirus stops so that you don't pass it on. I am not sure what your basing your information on, but it is incorrect.

On another note, i spoke with sophos this morning, they are aware of the problem, and working on a fix, they did say try putting the backup device into exemptions. I did this, and it did not work for me, but several people have said it did.

I am sorry but you are not answering the question, if you are going post on forums and make statements about macs not getting antivirus and claim that I am being gullible, I would appreciate you backing that up, so I again ask the question what was MacDefender and Thunderstike 2 if not viruses or are you unaware of these?

Also for the record I am IT admin of 18 years with experience in both windows and Mac infrastructure and software support. I would also again ask you what you basing your knowledge on?

I am not asking you to be impressed, I am simply asking you to state what you are basing your info on and what your opinion was on the MacDefender and Thunderstike 2 was. They were both covered a lot in the press and security bulletins last year, thats all. Your refusal to answer kind of speaks for its self. I don't think you like being challenged, and I am sorry for that. You seem to help a lot of people on here, but my experience contradicts your statements about viruses on Macs.

People google it, see what apple say, or go to your local apple store and see what they say, or read this http://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/mac/best-mac-antivirus-2016-sept-3637103/
