Q: iOS 10 - Alarm stopped working

I've upgraded my iPhone 6 to iOS 10.0.1 and ever since the update, my alarm clock no longer works. I can set an alarm, the alarm clock icon shows up in the upper RH of the screen, but when it's time to alert, nothing happens.  The phone does not turn on, it does not create any sound.  I've tried everything I could think of and the suggestions online, but no luck.

Another odd behavior is that even after an alarm has past (with no reaction in the phone) the icon in the upper RH remains.  I can delete all alarms, the alarm icon still is present on the screen.

I've tried the new Bedtime feature thinking it my by part of the problem, but it also does not work.  However, it does have some impact; if I turn on the bedtime feature, the alarm clock icon on the upper RH of the screen will go away and any alarm (on the alarm screen) that was armed gets turned off.  It's as if the two are mutually exclusive meaning you can either use Bedtime or traditional alarms, but not both.  Does anyone know if this is the case?

I really doubt I'll use the Bedtime feature, it's a little odd and not terribly useful for a hectic life that isn't too predictable for going to bed each night.  However, losing total functionality of the traditional alarm clock is a huge disappointment.

I've tried restarting the phone; the only thing that does is make the alarm clock icon disappear (if it was stuck on from a prior alarm). It does not restore the actual vibrate / audible function of an alarm that is set.

I also deleted my iHome clock app thinking the alarms from that app might somehow be competing with the native iOS alarm function, even though they both worked fine in iOS 9.

I am having the same problem too. You received a ridiculous response from apple... I am not going to reset my phone and reload all of my apps because of their technical mistake. Apple needs to just provide a bug fix/update ASAP!

If the problem is some sort of issue with, for example, corruption in the installed software, a restore is what it will take. It's possible that, if you do that, in a short time, you could have everything working again. Waiting for the next version of iOS 10 (which is unlikely to solve your problem anyway) will take a lot longer. But, it is, of course, your call.

    Best of luck.

I got the same problem from my 6 plus.

The only solution for me is to restart the phone every night in order to make sure it can ring in the next morning.

I recently updated my iPhone 6 to the iOS 10.0.1 as well and had many of these issues with my alarm and my phone ringing. My alarms were set as per usual and my phone was off silent and should be ringing, but nothing was happening. I tried deleting my alarms and resetting them, but still they "went off" but no sound. Same with my ringers - I reset everything, turned my phone off and on again and still no ring.

Finally, I remembered that I recently set up my Sonos Home Sound System that operates through an app on my phone and through my wireless at home. Since I don't use my Sonos player all the time, I deleted the app off my phone and powered the speaker down and POOF! My alarm goes off, my ringer rings, and I'm able to watch videos on social media.

Apparently this had to with AirPlay and some settings that I had set to on my phone for the Sonos player. It was simpler for me to just delete the app and only use when necessary at home.

    Hope this helps!

I Think the problem seems to be with any app running in the background which uses the speakers.

I Realised that one of my navigation app was allowed to run in background and keep using location services even if app is closed.

WHen I changes the location setting to "While using App" the problem got resolved.

I have been having the same exact issue ever since installing iOS 10!!! I'm so glad you posted here because everyone I've asked about this either a) thinns I'm crazy or b) says restart phone and erase all settings etc...neither of those troubleshoots have helped me either.

Same problem here on iphone SE with IOS 10.0.2. After deleting the alarms, shutting the phone down & setting the alarms new, it works for a few days as already described, and then the sounds are gone again. The alarm goes off without sounds and without vibrating. (My hardware mute button is !NOT! activated) When I try to change the ringtone of my alarm it also doesnt play any sounds. I don't use airplay or somethig like that and I double checked that my iphone is selected to play the sounds anyways. Resetting my phone would be a huge pain in the *** so pleaseeee apple: fix the problem.

Edit: After I wrote this post, I tried to call myself and the ring sounds are also not playing. Again: my phone isn't muted and the volume is on ~50%. It loos like there is a general sound problem which results in the alarm not working, because the alarm now uses the same sound.

Same issue on iPhone 6s+. Began immediately after I updated from iOS 9.32 > 10.2. I have tried all the suggested fixes listed in the 3 pages of this thread, with no progress. Actually not all - I haven't trashed the phone & restored "as new", because that's absurd. Apple may as well be telling me to just throw away my phone & buy a new one. For this to be the only response to us asking for help about a bug Apple introduced is crazy.

If there is anyone left in Cupertino who still has any empathy for actual users of these products, please fix this!
