Q: iCloud drive sync is freezing

Hello,

I recently upgraded to macOS Sierra and started to benefit from the new Desktop + Documents sync with iCloud Drive.

Unfortunately, I encountered an issue and can't find a solution by myself.

Sierra says that files are loading to iCloud but the loading is freezing at the end. Nothing is loading anymore.

Because of this, when I add another file to my 'Documents' folder, it won't be loaded since previous files are still 'loading'.

I opened Safari and tried to upload files directly, it worked. And I saw on my Mac that those files were downloading (from iCloud to my Mac).

Therefore, it seems that only the loading process is buggy but it's very annoying. I can't use the Finder effectively and need to upload files via a web browser, which is not convenient at all.

  • I switched off my Wifi but the same issue remained when switching on.
  • I restarted my computer and the issue remained.
  • I have update all the apps, as mentionnent in the support article related to iCloud potential issues.

Do you have any other suggestion. Thank you for you help!

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12), null

Try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?

    I'm in a similar boat.

In anticipation of international relocation, I moved around a bunch of files in iCloud Drive. Now, I'm sitting at 453.1MB of 1.82GB moved around in iCloud Drive. It's been at that level for about ten hours now.

I've restarted the laptop, closed and reopened finder, etc.

I looked into turning off iCloud Drive in Settings, and then restarting it there, but the option it gives is to wait for this current process to complete, or to force it to stop. In which case, it appears that everything will get dumped into an iCloud Archive folder.

    Thank you!

I forgot to mention I tried the check/uncheck Desktop+Documents syncing in system settings. But it didn't work.

Signing out of iCoud worked for me and warned me that a syncing is in progress. So I forced to sign out and logged in again. It works!

Now I don't have any load stacking issues but the iCloud Drive sync progress bar is still buggy. It shows that some data are syncing which is not the case. I even experienced a loading loop for a moment. iCloud loaded files and tried to do it again and again.

At least, for now, my files are in my Mac and in iCloud for real. Hope they will improve these frustrating bugs in an upcoming update.
