Q: how do i delete an apple accout that i do not use?

We have our I phones on 1 account but discovered that there is another account with my wife's email. Apple support

says that the other account is the cause of the problem but have failed to come up with a way to delete the account.

How can I delete an un used account?

You cannot "delete" an Apple ID account, but you can render it unusable* and then abandon it
Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
* change the email address to NOT hers by getting a free email account at Google or Yahoo or Hotmail - changing email address requires "verification" to complete the action
