Q: Flickering on Netflix after Sierra update

Since updating my MBP 13 yesterday there is a massive amount of flickering when watching Netflix in full screen mode.   Updating Silverlight did not resolve the problem.

Has anyone a possible solution for this?

Thanks

I have the same problem, haven't noticed/thought about the luminosity flicker, but definitely got the "VHS-flicker". Haven't tried firefox yet, but guessing it will work. Using a 12-inch MB, early 2015.

A couple of days ago I was contacted by an Applecare representative investigating the issue, I'll have her call me next monday.

    Has anyone else been contacted?

Hey there Gabrillo! I've been contacted two days ago and spoke with a representative yesterday, who kindly listened to the full explanation of the issue.

I've passed all the info we've gathered in this and the other three threads, and also a system diagnostics file that was forwarded to the engineering team. Unfortunately they can't directly tell us when and if the issue will be solved, but asked to pay attention to any system updates that might appear soon. Let's hope this can be solved quickly, and send as much info as you can! I think talking about this thread here might help.

    Hi,

I've been contacted also. They asked me to open up Safari, stream a video in full screen until flickering starts. After that they asked me to run system diagnostics file and upload it to their website. Hope everyone having this problem helps them as much as they can so Apple can fix this issue.

I also have been contacted by Applecare by mail. I'm waiting their phone call. It's good to see that they are investigating the issue.

Same here, read the thread and I have the exact same issues. Flickering in Netflix and sometimes youtube (only the controls flicker) I noticed the problem when i turned the netflix video to fullscreen and it immediately caused a flicker for a fraction off a second when the controls faded. The vhs-effect (right too left flicker) started on safari recently. turning off subs might fix the issue, have not had time to be fully sure about the subtitles fix.

I have been investigating the problem for about a month and I have found that turning off ''hardware acceleration'' on chrome fixes the issue on Netflix but that it only causes more flickering in Facebook when you scroll the timeline and videos load. Also youtube controls flicker when turning off hardware acceleration on chrome. I switched to safari and about 3 days ago the ''vhs-effect'' started happening. I have not tried firefox.

I have tried everything except for reseting the MacBook as a new computer, no fix removes all the issues, some fixes removes one flicker but causes others.

I was so scared this was a hardware issue but i guess not. My Macbook pro retina early 2015 is brand new, like 3 months old. Guess we just have to wait and see if a patch pops up in the near future

*Also* When visiting flash-player heavy sites (Like sites that have a lot of gifs, tumblr) I noticed that when turning off hardware acceleration the screen will get ''black boxes'' appearing on the screen when scrolling. When browsing on Netflix and bringing the cursor over movies will cause the same flickering black boxes.
