iPad Air 2 disconnects

iPad Air 2. IOS 9.3.5. Safari

For the past several weeks, when on a website I am frequently being disconnected and receive this message:

"A problem occurred with this website so it was reloaded"

This started out as happening only ocasionally, but now has increased so much that it happens 3,4,and 5 times on the same webpage. And it appears to be arbitrary. On some webistes this never happens, while on others it does. And it is not consistent, as the same website will have this problem at times,and at other times not. And these are not small obscure websites, but sites like The NY Times, Huffington Post, Politico, Wired,MacWorld etc.

As a person new to all this, any help would be sincerely appreciated. (And I would prefer to stay with Safari if that is possible)
