How to migrate to new Apple Watch hardware

Probably tomorrow I will receive my new Apple Watch Series 2.

IT shall remove my Apple Watch from 2015.

Is there anything special to consider when setting up the new Apple Watch?

I would like to retain all activity data and rewards I earned from my original watch.

I could suppose that the process is straughtforward: just pair the new AW with my iPhone and unpair the to-be-removed old Watch. Right?

Any best practices appreciated.

Hi

Unpair your watch from your iPhone using the Watch app, including entering your Apple ID password if prompted in order to remove Activation Lock from the watch:

You can then restore your new watch from the backup of the old one that is made automatically during the unpairing process:

Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

All historic Activity data (including Achievements earned) up to the point at which you unpair your old watch is stored on your iPhone, not on the watch, so it will be retained.
