21:9 (2560x1080) ultrawide monitor Macbook Air doesn't work after macOS Sierra

I'm having trouble with my LG 29UM58-P.

After installing macOS Sierra, Switchresx (4.5.3) doesn't have my custom resolution 2560x1080 anymore. I already tried to uninstall Switchresx and made new custom resolutions but it didn't help... First it didn't save my custom resolutions and then it said 'not installed' or 'not activated - invalid?'. Someone also said if you made an extra account on your mac and then set the custom resolutions, you could then use it in your normal macaccount but it also didn't work..

I tried (almost) everything.. before the software update it did work just fine. Oh and also I'm using HDMI to a mini displayport.

Could anyone help me out here?

Thanks a lot !

If you've an issue that may pertain to an awaited update or upgrade to

a third-party software application, you may wish to contact that maker

to see what their recommendations are.

In this case, contact SwitchResX screen resolution control software maker:

http://www.madrau.com/index.html Be sure you are using version 4.6 for

macOS Sierra 10.12. (for older versions: please click on • this page.)

Download

Note the need to temporarily disable SIP to install: (details incl. how-to)

macOS 10.11 and above

I've not used this software for quite some time; appears a license is retail

purchase and some updates after that are free, for version 4 users.

Contact the maker to ask questions, there is a form in their web site.

Good luck! 🙂

Hey guys, thanks for your answers ! 🙂

I recently found my solution.

I removed Switchresx, first I did uninstall Switchresx, but it was not totally removed.

The things you need to remove are all the maps/folders related to Switchresx.

They are in:

  • /Library/Preferences/
  • /Library/Application Support/
  • /Library/Caches/

After that I installed Switchresx and temporarily disabled SIP, made my custom resolution and enabled SIP.

My monitor is now working as it should !

If you're having the same problem, try this !
