Multiple Desktop Layouts

Hi there

I've been trying to set up multiple desktops. What I'd like to do is have three separate desktops - one for general use, one for photo editing and one for music production. Therefore what I want is to have applications eg Logic Pro on my music desktop but not on my general and photo desktops.

Is there a way to make this happen?

Many thanks

So, macOS X has what they call "spaces" (or at least that's what they used to call them). You can access them by pressing [control]-[up arrow]. You'll see "Dashboard" and "Desktop 1" at the top of the screen. In the top right corner of the screen, there's a big "+", if you click that it will create a second desktop "space". You can then click and drag windows from your current desktop to the word "Desktop 2" at the top - it will zoom out and show a preview of the desktops at the top of the screen, and you can drop the window on the "Desktop 2" preview to move it there.

You can switch between spaces either by doing the [control]-[up arrow] thing, or use [control]-[left arrow] and [control]-[right arrow] to go directly to the next or previous space.

If you're using the trackpad, three finger swipes work the same as the keystrokes, so three-finger swipe up to see the list of spaces, left and right to switch spaces, etc.

There's more in the Apple knowledge base at OS X El Capitan: Work in multiple spaces.
