HOW LONG IS SUPPORT AVAILABLE FOR APPLE SOFTWARE

Hi. how long is support available for apple software before there is a charge? My Imac is a 27" mid 2011. I have purchased a 5 bay enclosure for backing up photos (my wife has a lot) and my Itunes. Also I unable to find a way to partition external drives, use to be able to do it using Disk Utility, but that Icon is grayed out. I am running the beta version of Sierra 10.12.
